Protect your building from graffiti
Nobody likes having their property defaced. Graffiti is unattractive, and leaving it on your walls may make your customers feel like you don’t care about the impression your company is making.
Billions of dollars are spent every year to remove graffiti from buildings. Many building owners have turned to anti-graffiti coatings to prevent graffiti from causing damage in the first place, so they don’t have to worry about it.
How to remove graffiti from a building
Ideally, you’ll want to remove graffiti 24 to 48 hours after the incident. After that, the paint has had time to soak and dry on the surface. Different types of surfaces require slightly different treatments to remove.
On masonry surfaces and metal surfaces, we pressure wash the wall to remove graffiti. We may also use sandblasting to remove it from masonry surfaces. If enough time has passed it can be nearly impossible to completely remove the paint.
Rather than risk having to repaint over graffiti, some building owners opt for anti-graffiti coatings.
How anti-graffiti coatings work
There are two general types of anti-graffiti coatings–sacrificial and non-sacrificial. Sacrificial coatings work by binding with the paint. When you pressure wash a coated wall, the coating comes off and takes the paint with it.
Non-permanent anti-graffiti coatings (like sacrificial coatings) chemically repel paint. A sacrificial coating will need to be re-applied after an incident, and after the next one and the one after that. JK Industries uses non-sacrificial, permanent coating instead.
Permanent coating is applied once
Because they don’t require re-application, permanent coatings are ideal when you don’t want to have a cleaning each time there’s an incident. They’re also ideal for hard-to-reach places such as higher floors of a building—or a busy highway.
In 2012, JK Industries completed the largest anti-graffiti coating project in North America, applying the coating to the I-40 crosstown.
